The White River, Arizona On the Fort Apache Reservation The White River exists entirely on the Fort Apache Reservation in eastern
Arizona. The river gets its water, and thus its name, from the nearby White
Mts. About five miles downriver from where most of the photos below were
taken, the White River merges with the Black River to form the
Salt River,
which continues downward into the low deserts of southern Arizona. I did
not see even one other person in the remote parts of the White River I
visited, although there were plenty of black bears to keep me company.
East Fork of the White River
The East Fork of the White River, which also exists entirely on the
Fort Apache Reservation, feeds into the White River. The
East Fork is
a smaller tributary but every bit as big on wildlife and natural beauty.
