Quinlan Mts., Southern Arizona
Near Kitt Peak Observatory
The highest point in the Quinlan Mts. of southern Arizona is well-known as
the home of Kitt Peak National Observatory. The telescopes may peer deep
into space, but with a reguIar camera you can get great photos of planet
Earth. These pictures were actually taken about half-way up the Quinlans,
beneath the observatory, looking west toward the late-afternoon sun
(backlighting naturally eliminates detail in the distant mountains, reducing
them to simple blue tones). In both photos the nearest ridges are part
of the Quinlans where I was standing. Beyond that you can see the
Combobi Mts., and beyond that, the Quijotoa Mts. I believe the
second photo even shows a bit of the more distant Sierra Blancas.
