Aurora Borealis in Southern Arizona
Rare Display of "Northern Lights" as seen from the Mazatzal Mts.
Yes, you read that correctly. On Friday, May 10, 2024 a large solar storm caused
the "northern lights" to become visible much farther south than usual. People all across
the lower 48 states, even those in the more southern latitudes, were treated to a very
rare display of the aurora borealis. The two photos below were captured in the Mazatzal
Mts. northeast of Phoenix at around midnight. The solar storm continued for another
two days but in Arizona significant colors only occurred on the first night.
