Mt. Ord in the Mazatzal Mts., Arizona
Century plants bloom every summer across Arizona, but
you'd be hard-pressed to find more spectacular displays than those
on the slopes of Mt. Ord in the Mazatzal Mts. There are many species
of century plant. These happen to be Agave chrysantha. The plants
tend to grow at middle elevations, but if you continue to the summit of
Mt. Ord you can wander among pines as you enjoy sweeping views in
all directions. There are also many century plants atop nearby Iron
Dike (another mountain just across State Route 87), although I
found most of the best photo ops to actually be on Mt. Ord.
