This photograph was taken around 9 a.m. looking into the rising sun (the sun is just above the photo).
Heavy backlighting (not Photoshop) naturally reduced detail to simple, elegant tones.
The photo was taken from Geology Vista, at nearly 6,000 feet in the Santa Catalina Mts.
I'm looking east and a little bit south (about 115 degrees).
The closest mountains (at the bottom) are the extreme north end of the nearby Rincon Mts.
Beyond that things get a bit tricky, but after studying maps for awhile I believe the
distant southern Arizona ranges include the Galiuro and  Pinaleño Mountains
and, farthest away, possibly even a bit of Chiricahua National Monument.
